UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
WHAT ARE SDG GOALS?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. These 17 goals, with 169 targets, represent a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. They aim to improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth, all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. They are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership
